22 November 2011 - Winners of the GEW Five Minute Film Challenge announced!
For Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011 Achievers International held a competition to connect our entire network of schools.
The main part of the event was to hold a Five Minute Film Challenge for all of our schools to enter.
The criteria for these films were to discuss how schools established their student companies; provide information on their business partners, what the students' idea of an entrepreneur/enterprising individual is, and what skills they thought they would need to run their student businesses this year (among many other things).
Beyond that, schools were encouraged to be creative with their film entries.
We have decided to pick three winners and include an honourable mention due to the difficulty of choosing an outright winner - we felt all the schools deserved to be recognised. The official winners of the Achievers International Five Minute Film Challenge are as follows:
1st GESAMTSCHULE PETERSHAGEN [Germany]
2ndVCE SCHOOL 'KARL MARKS' [Bulgaria]
3rdMERCER ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL - [USA - Washington State]
Honourable mention: ZHUDONG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL [Taiwan]
Gesamtschule Petershagen from Germany are the winners of this year's competition as we felt that their film was the best overall. The quality of the video was excellent, but it was the content that we were much more interested in. The students spoke eloquently about their particular business, and about the practical skills that they have learned through running a small business at school. This video was the most focused and covered a lot of what we were looking for. So well done to the students at Gesamtschule Petershagen in Germany!
VCE Karl Marks' in Bulgaria's film was excellent too and again covered a lot of what we were looking for; each student introduced themselves, their position in the student company and their film included an excellent introduction to their souvenir trading company - including how their products are manufactured. It was very difficult to choose between this film and the entry from Germany.
The entry from Mercer Island High School in Washington, USA was also excellent and was perhaps the most professional looking film. We enjoyed the students' perspectives on taking part in an entrepreneurship class at school, and the tips they gave on working with other people in a business. It was very difficult to choose the outright winner, but we felt that Gesamtschule Petershagen's film was slightly more focused and applied better to this particular competition.
Although it is at times hard to follow some of what the students were saying in Zhudong Junior High School's film (due to background noise) we thought they should be recognised due to the sheer effort and creativity of their video - we loved this entry!
The other entries from schools such as Skinners' Academy in the UK, and Ecole Privee Fieldgen in Luxembourg were also excellent, but unfortunately there can be only one winner. We will be, however, uploading these videos to the Achievers International YouTube channel in due course.
The winning videos will be posted on the official GEW website shortly, and all the participants will receive an official GEW partner badge to put up on the school website!
The Achievers International team would like to give our sincerest thanks to all the participating students and teachers for their hard work in making this event a resounding success. Congratulations to all involved!
